A large foundation rig with two men working nearby.

Underpinning, the words used to place new foundations below those of the existing, can be used for many applications. To increase the current bearing capacity of existing foundations, if the building is settling due to leaks or leaking drains, is moving due to clay heave, or you wish to lower existing foundations adjacent to new proposed deep excavations or to increase headroom within existing basements.

All domestic and insurance projects qualify for the 12-year ASUC Plus Defects Insurance Guarantee. Get in touch for more details today!

Underpinning can be used to rectify subsidence, to provide additional bearing capacity when building above an existing structure or to provide a new bearing position if deep excavations, such as those required for basements, are to be formed adjacent to an existing property.

Excavations are made beneath the existing foundations to the required depth and concrete placed leaving a space of 50mm -75mm for a dry pack material to be placed to ensure a ‘tight’ joint between the new underpin and the old foundations.
